The Skin of The Tasty

All that remains of the decaying structures that housed the all-night eatery The Tasty and other venerable establishments is this façade fronting Harvard Square like a movie set. It will be tidied and retained as part of new construction scheduled for completion in 1999. Nelson Goddard, senior vice president of the Cambridge Savings Bank, which owns the property, says that the basement through the second floors will be used for retail purposes, the third floor for offices. The project is done "in cooperation with" the Cambridge Historical Commission, but that body has no authority over the fate of historic greasy spoons. Will The Tasty return? Says Goddard, "We are still in the discussion stage."
