Crimson in Washington

The midterm elections gave the University 40 affiliates in the 106th Congress: 23 Democrats (unchanged) and 17 Republicans (up from 16). Two new Harvard affiliates joined the contingent: Representatives-elect David Wu, M '81 (D-Ore.), and Patrick J. Toomey, J.D. '84 (R-Penn.). Former representatives turned Senators-elect Charles E. Schumer '71, J.D. '74 (D-N.Y.), and Michael D. Crapo, J.D. '77 (R-Id.), will now be serving in the upper chamber. Only Representative Barbara B. Kennelly, HRP '59 (D-Conn.), who lost her state's gubernatorial contest, will not be returning to Capitol Hill.
