The SIGnboard

The Harvard Alumni Association has approved more than 30 Shared Interest Groups; a complete list appears at http://post.harvard.edu/harvard/clubs/html/SIGdir.shtml. Harvard Magazine invites SIGs to share news of their activities in this space. (Send items to classnotes@harvard.edu, using SIG in the “class year” line.)

Harvard Gay and Lesbian Caucus

Join us in Washington, D.C., on September 13 for drinks and dinner at the Austin Grill. RSVPs (hglc_dc@yahoo.com) are requested to help us plan the event. Then on October 20, gather for an Intercollegiate LGBT Happy Hour at Nellie’s Sports Bar with old and new friends from Princeton and Yale. Farther north, we are co-sponsoring an All-Ivy LGBT Fall Bash in Manhattan on September 21 in the upstairs lounge at the Ritz in Hell’s Kitchen, where we’ve had a couple of great events. For further details, visit www.hglc.org/chapters/index.html.

Harvard Veterans Alumni Organization

HVAO has launched the Harvard Veterans History Project at its website, www.harvardveterans.org, and invites all members of the Harvard community to click the History Project tab and submit additions, corrections, and comment to harvardveterans@verizon.net. Also, on Veterans Day, 11/11/11, we will dedicate the amended Harvard Medal of Honor Memorial, for all 17 Harvard recipients. Tax-deductible donations to support the cost of the memorial are welcomed; please click the Contribution tab at the HVAO website, or contact tom@harvardveterans.org.

Harvardwood

Harvardwood NYC hosts an evening reception and concert at the Down Town Association on September 22: the Clarion Music Society will perform works by Salamone Rossi, the only Jewish composer among the giants of Renaissance Venice. (Advance registration is required.) In Los Angeles, Harvardwood Helps is organizing a blood drive in September. And in October, plan to join us for the annual Harvard in Hollywood symposium, co-sponsored by the Harvard Club of Southern California and the Harvard Business School Association of Southern California. This year’s theme is “The Social Impact of Art, Media, and Entertainment.” Visit www.harvardwood.org for more details on all these events.

Phillips Brooks House Association (PBHA) Alumni

PBHA Alumni will host a weekend of alumni activities on October 14-16 (overlapping, in part, with Harvard’s 375th-anniversary celebrations). Events are expected to include a site visit to a South End neighborhood served by PBHA volunteers, and on Saturday evening, PBHA will present its fifth annual Robert Coles “Call to Service” Speaker and Award. Visit www.alumni.pbha.org for more information.
